Leaders in Literacy
This presentation examined the strengths and limitations of the Science of Reading, including discussions of the reciprocal relationship of phonemic awareness and phonics, visual memory and orthography, and the cognitive science of learning for decoding and language comprehension, beyond the Simple View of Reading.
We were joined by Dr. Andrea Stolar, Director of Special Education for Chicopee Public Schools in Massachusetts. She discussed how she has implemented reading intervention in her district in alignment with state legislation.
The presentation also highlighted implementation models and evidence of effectiveness from reading interventions in response to legislation in Arkansas, Georgia, and Florida.
