Concept imagery is the ability to create an imaged gestalt (whole) from oral and written language. Individuals with weak concept imagery often process “parts” of information they read or hear, but not the whole. This causes them to grasp only parts of oral and written language.
Decoding skills are the ability to understand written or spoken words by breaking them down into sounds and blending them together. Decoding is a key skill for learning to read.

Evidence-based instruction is a practice or program proven effective through rigorous research and studies, demonstrating positive outcomes when implemented.
At Lindamood-Bell, intensive instruction is daily instruction in reading, comprehension, or math, usually lasting 2-4 hours.
Multi-sensory learning is an instructional approach that actively engages multiple senses—visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile—during the learning process to enhance understanding and retention.
Orthographic processing, also called symbol imagery, is the ability to auditorily perceive and mentally image the sounds and letters within words. Individuals with weak symbol imagery have difficulty identifying the sounds/letters within words and retaining the orthographic patterns in words.
Phoneme awareness is the ability to auditorily perceive sounds within words. Individuals with weak phonemic awareness have difficulty identifying the number, order, and sameness/difference of sounds within words.
Reading fluency is the ability to read accurately, at an appropriate speed, and with expression, which allows readers to engage with text more effectively.
