Innovative partnerships. New approaches. Greater opportunities for student success.
Forty years ago, Lindamood-Bell started in San Luis Obispo, California, and embarked on a mission to help all students learn to their potential. Today, across California, Lindamood-Bell is collaborating with educators to address one of education’s most persistent challenges: helping students who continue to struggle with literacy despite years of traditional instruction.
Celebrating our 40th anniversary, we’re excited to share recent partnerships and upcoming presentations featuring California educators rethinking what’s possible.

How can high schools help students who are still struggling to read?
The Reaching At-Promise Students Association (RAPSA) conference highlights innovations for meeting the needs of the most at-risk youth. Lindamood-Bell is co-presenting with Sweetwater Union High School District to share an innovative high school reading clinic model designed to address foundational literacy gaps among adolescent learners.
We’ll explore how similar models can create new opportunities for alternative education programs serving at-promise youth, including students preparing for graduation, postsecondary education, and careers.

Spotlight: San Francisco Unified
Innovative Funding. Intensive Intervention. Measurable Results.
San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), one of the host districts for the upcoming Urban Collaborative Fall Meeting, partnered with Lindamood-Bell to deliver intensive literacy intervention through our Learning Center on Campus model.
Leveraging federal Comprehensive Coordinated Early Intervening Services (CCEIS) funding, SFUSD provided 16 struggling readers with intensive intervention through programs grounded in the science of reading.
Students demonstrated significant reading gains, including a 24-point increase in phonemic awareness, from the 21st to the 45th percentile, and a 19-point increase in phonics, from the 8th to the 27th percentile. Large standard score gains were also achieved in word reading, spelling, and comprehension.
