What Is a Hybrid Homeschool Program and How Does It Work?

Oct 29, 2026

hybrid homeschool program

Hybrid homeschooling combines different learning environments to give families greater flexibility in how and where students complete school. At Lindamood-Bell Academy, students can choose from in-person instruction, live-online instruction, or a combination of both.

Core classes in English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies/History are integrated with Lindamood-Bell instruction based on each student’s learning needs. This unique school model is the only one that focuses on strengthening the imagery language foundation for all learning. This integration allows students to strengthen underlying skills for reading and comprehension as they progress through their academic coursework.

Student schedules are personalized to accommodate individual academic needs and family routines. Students receive direct instruction and support throughout their school day rather than working independently through an online curriculum. Families considering hybrid homeschool options can choose the combination of in-person and live-online learning that works best for them.

Enrollment, What to Expect, and Measurable Outcomes

hybrid homeschool options

Getting started begins with a brief conversation with a learning expert about your child’s academic needs, learning history, and educational goals. Prior testing and academic records can be reviewed to help determine appropriate placement and instructional needs. Each student’s hybrid homeschool plan can be personalized based on academic needs, educational goals, and scheduling preferences.

Next, a comprehensive Learning Ability Evaluation can identify a student’s strengths and areas of need in skills such as decoding, fluency, and comprehension. This information can help guide a personalized education plan, including coursework, instructional priorities, and scheduling.

Throughout enrollment, student progress is monitored so instruction can be adjusted based on performance and changing needs. Families receive updates about academic progress and the development of targeted learning skills.

At Lindamood-Bell, we believe families should be able to see and understand their student’s progress. Our commitment to measurable outcomes includes pre- and post-instruction testing to document growth in targeted areas and provide objective information about learning gains.

For families exploring hybrid homeschool programs, Lindamood-Bell Academy offers a flexible way to combine accredited K–12 academics with individualized instruction. Whether students choose in-person instruction, live-online instruction, or a combination of both, the goal is to provide the structure, instruction, and support they need to make meaningful academic progress.

📚 2006: What happens when an entire school district works to improve reading?

In 2006, researchers from Texas A&M University published a study in the American Educational Research Journal examining reading achievement in Colorado’s Pueblo School District 60, where Lindamood-Bell had been working with schools since 1997 to support students at risk of reading difficulties.

They examined reading scores for students in grades 3–5 over several years and found that schools using Lindamood-Bell instruction made significantly greater gains than schools across Colorado. Those gains increased over time, including in Title I schools.

It was encouraging to see these results, especially in a district where so many students needed additional reading support.

🧠 2004: Georgetown University researchers publish an important study on adult dyslexia and Lindamood-Bell instruction.

Led by Dr. Guinevere Eden and published in the scientific journal Neuron, the study used brain imaging to examine changes in adults with dyslexia following eight weeks of intensive Lindamood-Bell instruction.

Researchers found improvements in reading skills along with changes in brain activity, showing that the adult brain can continue to change and develop with reading instruction.

More than 20 years later, these findings continue to offer hope for adults who struggle with reading.

📖 1998: The Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® (LiPS®) Program is published.

Lindamood-Bell co-founder and speech-language pathologist Patricia Lindamood and her daughter, Phyllis Lindamood, revised the Auditory Discrimination in Depth (ADD) program and published the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® Program for Reading, Spelling, and Speech (LiPS®).

The LiPS® Program helps students develop phonemic awareness by teaching them to discover and label the mouth movements that produce speech sounds. Students learn to identify and sequence sounds in words, then apply those skills to reading, spelling, and speech.
