An opinion article by The New York Times Editorial Board, The Coronavirus’s Lost Generation of Students raised concerns that the same type of learning loss is likely to occur during the COVID-19 pandemic for many children, regardless of learning difficulties. They cited a study by the Northwest Evaluation Association that suggests students returning to school this fall having made 30% less gain in reading skills and 50% less gain in math skills than in a typical year.
