Idaho Students Receiving On Cloud Nine Instruction Make a Significant Improvement in Math
Elementary School Results, Idaho, Math, On Cloud Nine
Orofino Elementary School in Orofino, Idaho, serves a large percentage of students who are at-risk of math failure. During the 2002-03 school year, Orofino implemented Lindamood-Bell® instruction to address the specific needs of this student population. Seventy-five students received an average of 51 hours of On Cloud Nine instruction to develop numeral imagery for math. Instruction was delivered by Orofino teachers who received professional development in the Lindamood-Bell programs. Student gains were measured with a math assessment.
Results
On average, On Cloud Nine students made a large standard score change in math. Additionally, the 40-point percentile increase put these students well within the normal range (25th-75th percentile). Their pre- to posttest results were statistically significant. The results of this study illustrate that Lindamood-Bell instruction in the On Cloud Nine program leads to improved math, which is essential to achieving success with school curricula.
