Laurens County Schools—Middle School Students
Georgia, Middle School Results, Reading Inventory Progress Monitoring, Secondary
East Laurens Middle School in Laurens County, Georgia, serves a large percentage of students who are at-risk of reading failure. During the 2019-20 school year, East Laurens Middle School implemented Lindamood-Bell® instruction to address the specific needs of this student population. 22 students received 1 semester of small-group Seeing Stars instruction to develop symbol imagery for reading. Instruction was delivered by East Laurens Middle School teachers who received professional development in the programs created by Lindamood-Bell’s founders. Student gains were measured with Reading Inventory.
RESULTS
On average, Seeing Stars students achieved significant improvements in reading. Their actual growth exceeded their expected growth at each grade level. The results of this study illustrate that Lindamood-Bell instruction in the Seeing Stars program leads to improved reading, which is essential to achieving success with school curricula.
