Lindamood-Bell has pioneered programs to develop the imagery-language foundation that underlies reading, comprehension, and math. See how we help thousands of students learn to their potential every year.

We are so proud of Lindamood-Bell Academy student, Shane!

In this video, Shane’s mom describes developmental delays and how they affect school. Although some had “given up on him,” Shane always retained his positive outlook.

Shane is now thriving at Lindamood-Bell Academy, a private K-12 school that combines research-validated instruction with fully individualized curriculum to help close the gap between potential and performance.

Students like Shane can make progress on schoolwork that is tailored to their abilities while also gaining the necessary skills to improve their language and literacy skills.

The Lindamood-Bell Academy is a private K-12 school that combines research-validated Lindamood-Bell instruction with curriculum to help close the gap between potential and performance. Students can attend online, in-person or a combination of both. The learning needs of each child are addressed so they are ready to learn.

Lindamood-Bell has been involved with research for over 30 years.
Our continued success is due to our unique approach, including our evidence-based, sensory-cognitive instruction.

We actively take part in peer-reviewed studies. We have partnered with such institutions as Georgetown University, MIT, and Wake Forest University to conduct neurological and behavioral research. To maintain our exceptional standard of quality, we internally monitor student results at our learning centers, our Academy, and at our school partnerships.

The research consistently proves that Lindamood-Bell instruction changes the brain functions underlying language and literacy skills. These brain functions continue to improve after our instruction has ended.

Students who need a flexible schedule or location can attend our accredited K-12 school, Lindamood-Bell Academy, online!

We are unique in the world of virtual instruction. Online students work with instructors live, in real-time, just like students who attend on campus. We combine research-validated instruction with an accredited curriculum to help close the gap between potential and performance. The learning needs of each child are addressed so they are ready to learn, and they do!

📚 2006: What happens when an entire school district works to improve reading?

In 2006, researchers from Texas A&M University published a study in the American Educational Research Journal examining reading achievement in Colorado’s Pueblo School District 60, where Lindamood-Bell had been working with schools since 1997 to support students at risk of reading difficulties.

They examined reading scores for students in grades 3–5 over several years and found that schools using Lindamood-Bell instruction made significantly greater gains than schools across Colorado. Those gains increased over time, including in Title I schools.

It was encouraging to see these results, especially in a district where so many students needed additional reading support.

🧠 2004: Georgetown University researchers publish an important study on adult dyslexia and Lindamood-Bell instruction.

Led by Dr. Guinevere Eden and published in the scientific journal Neuron, the study used brain imaging to examine changes in adults with dyslexia following eight weeks of intensive Lindamood-Bell instruction.

Researchers found improvements in reading skills along with changes in brain activity, showing that the adult brain can continue to change and develop with reading instruction.

More than 20 years later, these findings continue to offer hope for adults who struggle with reading.

📖 1998: The Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® (LiPS®) Program is published.

Lindamood-Bell co-founder and speech-language pathologist Patricia Lindamood and her daughter, Phyllis Lindamood, revised the Auditory Discrimination in Depth (ADD) program and published the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® Program for Reading, Spelling, and Speech (LiPS®).

The LiPS® Program helps students develop phonemic awareness by teaching them to discover and label the mouth movements that produce speech sounds. Students learn to identify and sequence sounds in words, then apply those skills to reading, spelling, and speech.

📚 1997: Two new programs become part of the Lindamood-Bell story.

Nanci Bell published Seeing Stars®, designed to develop symbol imagery, the ability to visualize letters and words for reading and spelling. Long overlooked in literacy instruction, symbol imagery addresses what is a missing piece for many struggling readers.

Nanci Bell and Kimberly Tuley also published On Cloud Nine® Math, designed to develop numerical imagery for number sense and mathematical reasoning.

Nearly 30 years later, both programs remain core to Lindamood-Bell instruction and our commitment to helping students learn to their potential.
