Does She Understand?
Is She Understanding What She Reads?
We work with a large range of students who have different levels of ability when it comes to comprehension.
Please answer a few questions that can help you decide if Lindamood-Bell instruction may be the right solution for your child.
When reading, does your child remember most of the details about what he or she has just read?
- Is your child able to retell the story in their own words with relative ease?
- Is your child able to answer questions that are more like critical thinking questions?
- For example, What will happen next? Why did this happen?…etc?
When given a list of tasks or instructions, is your child able to remember and complete most/all of the list?
- Is he or she able to complete without reminders or a repeat of the entire list?
Does your child find reading exciting and enjoyable even if the topic is not of their interest?
If you’ve answered no to several of these questions, your child might have a weakness with the underlying functions that allow us to process language efficiently. This is called Concept Imagery and it is what helps us to make pictures or movies when we read or listen to language.
